On the 1902 Sanborn Fire Insurance Map, 227 and 229 South Adams are a three-story attached building, with a center stair, at the northwest corner of South Adams and Liberty. Behind 227 is a one-story addition and behind 229 is a one-story shed or livery stable along the alley between Liberty and Fulton. On the map, 227-229, as well as 231-233 are labeled as “Hamilton No. 2 & 5.”

 

This corner was later the home for CILCO and that same building is now home to Ameren.
