Most city directories contain many typographical errors, which have been copied below as printed.

 

810 South Adams appears on 1902 maps as a two-story building, with one-story additions on either side, that is set back from Adams almost to the alley, with a number of outbuildings. It sat on the river side of the street, between Oak and Elm. That building was used as both a private home and a boarding house, which only in the 1893 and 1894 PCD is also listed as a hotel. From 1893 to 1897, it is known as Ballance House, thou no one with that last name is listed there. It is last listed to Katherine Eleanor Jeneson, in 1928. From 1929 thru 1937, the address is not listed at all in a PCD, which might indicate the building was demolished.

 

Starting in 1938, the address is listed to R. Cooper Jr., Electrical Equipment and continues with that business until at least 1959. At some point, before 1975, it becomes Mitchell Fabrics, which is a one-story brick building that fronts on the sidewalk.
